Resolve your Resolution
|
How's your New Year's Resolution coming along? Having a hard time keeping up with it? You're not alone.
Sticking to a "resolution" is like trying to stick to a "diet". It hardly ever turns out the way you want it to. Diets and resolutions don't fail because you're lazy or incapable or any of the other mean things you might be telling yourself. Usually it's either because:
- You've set unrealistic expectations
- You're not getting the support you need to reach your goals.
If you're having a hard time with your resolution, the first thing is to try breaking your tasks down into smaller chunks. Having a broad, undefined goal is hard to implement. Smaller, more specific intentions are easier to maintain. For example, if your goal is to keep your apartment clean on a regular basis, you might have trouble accomplishing that. It's just too nebulous and generalized. But if you break that idea down into smaller parts, it's much more attainable. You might section that goal off into three tasks like:
- Make the bed every day
- Wash the dishes nightly so they don't stack up in the sink
- Vacuum every Sunday
Now you've got just a few manageable tasks that all add up to your original goal of maintaining a cleaner apartment!
You may find yourself still having trouble with achieving your resolutions, even after breaking them down. In that case, ask yourself if you're getting the support you need. If your goal is to get in shape, maybe seeking the support of a trainer is what you're missing. If your goal is to de-stress, maybe you need the support of regular massage therapy.
Seeking support in reaching your goals doesn't mean that you're incapable of doing it yourself. It means you're smart enough to use the right tool for the job. You wouldn't try to remodel your home without the help of a good architect and contractor, right? So how can you be expected to remodel your life without a great team behind you?
You can reach any goal you set. By creating small, defined tasks and by creating the appropriate support structure, you will have the power to transform your life!

| Recipe of the Month |
Sauteed Cabbage
This recipe is super simple and came out tasting WAY better than I expected! It's even easier if you use the pre-prepared shredded cabbage you can find in Whole Foods, like I did. That also gave me a mix of half regular, half red cabbage, which was really tasty. You might want to halve the rest of the ingredients in that case, though, as the pre-prepared stuff is less than if you were to shred a cabbage yourself.
Ingredients:
- 1 shredded cabbage
- 1 onion
- A couple tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- Turmeric
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Directions:
- Halve the onion, then cut it into "moons" so that the pieces end up looking about the same as shredded cabbage
- In a skillet, saute the onion over medium heat until it browns
- Add the cabbage on top
- Sprinkle with Turmeric (amount to your own preferences), salt and pepper
- Mix and stir and cook until the cabbage softens but before it gets mushy
- Serve and enjoy!
