Greetings,

I believe

You have the power to Transform your life!

There are some lyrics from a song in the musical Oklahoma! that come to my mind quite often: "It ain't so much a question of not knowing what to do." Isn't that just the case?

Most of the time, we know what to do. Or at the very least, we know what not to do. I prefer to call these options either "more supportive" or "less supportive" choices. For example, eating a box of Oreos before going to bed would be considered a "less supportive" choice. A "more supportive choice" might be to drink a soothing cup of tea and read an interesting novel before retiring for the evening. But for some reason, sometimes we choose the Oreos.

It's not because we're lazy or stupid or any other critical adjective you can think of. There are reasons for everything we do. There are always motivating influences. It's when we're able to discover those forces that drive our actions that we are able to affect change.

When we tap into the feelings and needs that are driving our actions, self-criticism can be stripped away. Our actions make sense. Letting go of this judgment allows us to release blame and embrace responsibility. Blame is mired in victimhood, whereas responsibility is empowering: if I am the one responsible, then I am the one in power. When I own that power, I can do anything...including making the choice to not eat the Oreos.

Of course, you can also make the choice to eat the Oreos. The point is, you have the choice. You're not hopeless or helpless. And when you awaken that power within, the possibilities are limitless.

    Green Peas
Most of us turn to the warm nourishment of soups when we've got a cold or are fighting the winter chill. But soups are a great choice all year round! Light and easy to digest, soup is an especially supportive choice as an evening meal. Here's a cream-free recipe that's perfect for Spring.

    Ingredients:
    • 2 cups whole or split peas, presoaked
    • 1/4 diced onion
    • 1 cup diced celery
    • 1 bay leaf
    • 5 to 6 cups water
    • 1/2 cup dulse (a type of sea vegetable)
    • 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
    • 1 teaspoon sea salt
    • 2 tablespoons vinegar
    Directions:
    1. Layer the vegetables (except for the peas) in a pot in the order listed in the Ingredients
    2. Add the peas, water, and bay leaf
    3. Bring to a boil
    4. Reduce heat and let simmer for one hour. Whole peas will require a longer cooking time
    5. Add the dulse, mustard, and salt and let simmer for 10 more minutes.
    6. Add vinegar before serving
